Arundel, UK - The Arundel Players is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of "The Suspicions of Mr Whicher" at the Priory Theatre, running from the 21st to the 26th of October, 2024. 

Based on the gripping bestseller by Kate Summerscale and directed by Yasmin Nixon, this captivating play promises to transport audiences to a time of dark Victorian mystery and compelling drama.

"The Suspicions of Mr Whicher" unravels the story of a young boy found dead in the outside privy of an affluent house in Kent—a seemingly senseless murder that shattered an innocent life. John Whicher, a celebrated detective from Scotland Yard, is called in to investigate but finds his career nearly destroyed by the haunting complexities of the case. 

Over two decades later, still tormented by the unsolved mystery, Whicher reconnects with the only individual who knows the truth. In a heart-wrenching reprise of their past, they explore the possibility of redemption.

Yasmin Nixon, Director says: “Set in the summer of 1860, within the confines of an elegant country house, the murder points a damning finger at a member of the grieving household. This ensemble piece deftly captures the essence of Victorian intrigue and aims to draw audiences into a narrative laced with suspense and moral quandaries.

“The cast of seven, weave their way artfully through the scenes, creating marvelous characters who brilliantly portray life in Victorian England. I am delighted that this cast comprises seasoned and novice actors, new and old members of the players and I am  delighted to work with such creative beings”.
